Up until 2008, bowling was something Martin Paulsson did just for fun.  The right-hander from Malmo, Sweden had stepped away from competitive bowling, only competing in local leagues near his home.

But a push from Swedish National Coach Tomas Leandersson brought Paulsson back to competitive bowling, and ultimately to the top of the sport.

Paulsson, a three-year member of Team Sweden, was named 2011 Bowler of the Year by the Swedish Bowling Federation.  The 40-year-old won the honor based on the strength of his 2011 European Championships Masters title in Munich, Germany.

“Winning the award is a dream come true,” said Paulsson, an Ebonite International Staff Member since 2010.  “It’s a great honor to be awarded Bowler of the Year.  Sweden has a lot of great players, and I’m very proud to be among them.”

The Bowler of the Year Award is the culmination of a 180-degree turnaround for Paulsson.  Even though he was serious about the sport, he had become more laid back in regards to bowling.  But Leandersson, a member of the World Bowling Writers International Hall of Fame, thought Paulsson would be a great addition to the national team… with a little work.

“He knew that I only played the Swedish league, and never practiced,” said Paulsson.  “Despite that, I was often in top of the matches.  He encouraged me to take bowling more seriously.”

Paulsson added some things to his bowling routine: more practice, working tougher lane conditions, and spending time in the gym.

Paulsson says he owes a lot of his success and is very grateful to Ebonite International. He has exclusively rolled equipment from the Brands of Ebonite International.  He says the equipment gave him the confidence to succeed in 2011.

Paulsson is even more excited over the newer offerings from Ebonite International.
